How to Create & Post LinkedIn Documents

(Those cool-looking carousels you see people post in the newsfeed...)

In this edition of my newsletter, I'm going to show you how to create one of those cool-looking carousel posts on LinkedIn.

They're called Document Posts.

But first of all, let me explain why it's a good idea to use them...

LinkedIn is the only Social Media platform that currently has this kind of functionality. So naturally, document posts are favoured by their algorithm. This means they tend to get a lot more reach than other post formats.

They're proud of this feature, and why wouldn't they be?

Here are some other great reasons to use document posts:

  • They're visually engaging - you can combine text with graphics in a way that no other format allows.
  • They can be more detailed and informative that other types of post. You can include as many as 300 pages in a document (please NEVER do that though!)
  • Document posts are great for teaching things, sharing numbers and sharing presentations you've done that others could benefit from.
  • They're great for sharing graphs and statistics (we all love a good stat from time-to-time...)
  • And they just look really cool in the newsfeed (if you do them well!)

The only drawback with document posts is that they can be quite onerous to create. Until now...

I'm going to share some simple templates with you for FREE that will help you get started with them.

So, the first thing to do is get yourself a free Canva account, if you don't already have one. Just click here if that's the case.

Then make yourself a copy of my simple templates, (I'll add more soon so feel free to check back in a few days:

Now watch this video which will walk you through everything you need to do to make the templates your own. (Sorry, I'm feeling lazy today so the video is all you get! 😂)

WHAT'S NEXT?

I see all too often coaches trying out 1 new strategy thinking it’s going to fix their coaching business.

Even a strategy like creating better LinkedIn content.

What about all the other coaches who are already putting great content out there?

By having better LinkedIn content, you stand out from coaches whose posts don't resonate with their audience.

BUT it’s not enough to stand out from every other coach who already creates content aligned to their audience.

To figure out what else you need, do a quick self-evaluation of your business:

  • Does your niche pass the “crowded room test”?
Your ideal client should turn their head if you say your niche out loud in a crowded room.
So “women professionals” or “corporate leaders” don’t cut it.
It’s always something more unique to you and something your niches feels is part of their identity.
  • Do you have a strategy for reaching out to your warm network?
These are your best potential clients, but many coaches are hesitant to reach out to people they know.
You should have a way of reaching out that isn’t awkward and actually builds your relationship even if they don’t work with you.
  • How do you lead impactful discovery calls with potential clients?
Hint: A phone call to “catch up” or a “get to know you” doesn’t work.
You should be clear about what you need to know about them and what they need to know about you in order to work together.
They should also get a taste of what it’s like to work with you so the decision is a no-brainer.
  • How do you need to show up online to stand out to your niche?
When someone doesn’t know you, your profile needs to scream that you’re the perfect coach for them.
You also need to effectively establish your credibility and have a way of getting to know you without sounding braggy.
Your call-to-action (CTA) should take them on a journey (“Book a call” is NOT effective and actually intimidates prospects).
  • What content generates actual conversations about your coaching business?
You should know clearly the topics that your audience wants to hear about.
Your posts should establish you as an authority in their space.
Posting should be about starting a conversation, but prospects today want a different path to becoming a client than just “booking a call.”
  • How do you reach out to someone who doesn’t know you and get them interested in your coaching?
The only way to consistently grow your business is to have a process that works.
You need to know what to say, how to say it, and when.
They need to see that everything else about your business is aligned so that they want to have a conversation with you.
  • Have you gotten this system refined enough that you can hire an employee to maintain your business’ growth?
If not, you don’t have a business - you have a job.
If you do, the process for hiring and managing your first employee it simple.
Having an assistant allows you to focus on what you do best: coaching.
